Baby Leviathan
A practical guide to the recurring FISH! boss event in VRChat: when to arrive, what to catch, how damage works, which rewards matter, and how to prepare for a faster, cleaner run.
How the battle works
The essential mechanics
Find the active pool
At the scheduled spawn, look for an Active Leviathan Pool. The game announces the encounter before it begins and again when the Baby Leviathan appears.
Catch event targets
Only Leviathan-related catches contribute damage. Ordinary fish take time away from the objective, so identify event catches and keep cycling casts.
Rarity controls damage
Higher-rarity Leviathan catches deal more damage. Fast catches matter, but landing rarer event targets produces stronger hits against the boss.
Health scales to the group
Boss health is established according to the number of players in the pool. It does not keep rising or falling as players join or leave during that encounter.
The final hit matters
The angler whose catch delivers the finishing blow receives the Tear of the Leviathan, a required component for crafting the Leviathan Rod.
Choose your group tradeoff
More anglers generally make the clear easier, but increase competition for the finishing blow. Solo play is harder, while a successful solo clear guarantees the Tear to you.
Recommended battle plan
Practical strategy
- Arrive before the even UTC hour.Use the 10-minute and 5-minute announcements as preparation warnings. Get your boat positioned, equip your intended setup, and avoid changing gear after the pool becomes active.
- Reach instant attraction first.Shortening the wait between casts increases the number of event catches you can attempt. Once attraction is effectively instant, invest the remaining setup into Luck.
- Keep the bobber close to you.A small, fast, low-riding boat—such as an upgraded SurfBoard—reduces movement between the player and bobber. Less reaching and repositioning means faster recasts.
- Reject non-event distractions.Focus only on Leviathan-related targets. A normal catch may still be valuable elsewhere, but during the boss it contributes no damage and costs precious encounter time.
- Keep a steady casting rhythm.Prioritize clean, repeatable catches over frantic movement. Recast immediately, keep the pool in view, and avoid crowding other anglers when a slightly separated position is available.
- Pick a lobby for your goal.Use a larger group when your priority is reliable completion and event materials. Use a smaller group when you want a better chance at the final hit. Attempt solo only when your setup can realistically finish the scaled encounter.
