Gameplay Guides
Practical help for starting out, choosing equipment, leveling efficiently, completing daily bounties, and preparing for the Baby Leviathan.
Getting Started
A simple progression path for a new angler.
- Learn the catch rhythm first. Practice keeping the fish inside the white control area instead of immediately chasing difficult or heavy targets.
- Fill nearby Catch Index entries. Early index progress introduces the local fish and gives you a reason to test different water, times, and weather.
- Upgrade the weakest part of your setup. If bites are slow, improve attraction. If fights are unstable, add Strength or Expertise. If your line cannot handle the fish, increase capacity before adding speed.
- Unlock useful travel before wandering randomly. Boats and new islands open better fishing routes, quests, crafting, and new catch pools.
- Keep one clear goal per session. Choose XP, money, an Index entry, a bounty, or a quest. A focused session wastes less time changing gear and locations.
Build for the Fish You Want
Understand what each fishing stat is solving.
Before changing your gear
Check the target’s location, water type, time, weather, and rarity. Luck cannot add a fish to the pool when its required conditions are missing. Once the fish is available, tune the setup around the problem you are actually having.
Level Faster
Optimize total XP per minute, not XP from one impressive catch.
- Choose water where you can cast again immediately and land most of what bites.
- Use enough line capacity, Strength, and Expertise to prevent failed or unnecessarily long fights.
- Favor Attraction Rate when it noticeably increases completed catches per minute.
- Use an XP-oriented enchantment such as Curious when its current in-game description provides the best leveling benefit.
- Test the setup for a fixed period. Count misses, travel, inventory time, and slow catches—not only successful casts.
- Change one piece of gear at a time and keep the setup with the higher repeatable XP rate.
Complete Daily Bounties Efficiently
Plan the board before traveling or selling catches.
- Open the daily board and read all five targets before choosing a location.
- Group fish that share an island, water type, weather condition, or time window.
- Check the Catch Index before leaving so you bring a setup that can safely handle the target.
- Keep qualifying catches until the turn-in is confirmed. When possible, submit the least valuable eligible copy.
- Finish completed bounties before the daily reset instead of waiting until the final seconds.
Prepare for the Baby Leviathan
Arrive ready so the short event window is spent fishing.
Before the event
- Enter the FISH! world early and finish gear, inventory, and boat decisions before the spawn.
- Use a responsive setup that balances quick bites with enough control for the event pool.
- Position near the expected active pool and watch the timer’s 10-minute and 5-minute warnings.
During the fight
- Catch Leviathan event targets; ordinary fish do not advance the boss fight.
- Higher-rarity Leviathan catches deal more damage, so balance catch speed with rarity.
- The boss health is established from the number of players in the pool when the encounter begins.
- The finishing catch matters because the angler who lands it receives the Tear of the Leviathan.
More players usually make the clear easier, but they also create more competition for the final hit. Solo attempts are harder, while a successful solo clear guarantees the finishing reward.
A Useful Daily Routine
A quick checklist for making each session productive.
- Collect the daily login reward and confirm that it registered.
- Review Today’s Bounties before selling stored catches.
- Check the Leviathan timer and decide whether the next event fits the session.
- Choose one main goal: bounty completion, XP, an Index entry, a quest, money, or event preparation.
- Equip once, group nearby objectives, and minimize repeated travel.
- Before leaving, submit completed objectives and note the next unlock you are working toward.
